A note from our English Coordinator

Saturday 20th June, 2020

Most of you already know me but if not, I am Mrs Guildford-Sharp AKA Mrs G-S and since January 2020 I have become the Literacy Co-ordinator for our schools. During the last few months, I have been working hard developing an exciting and engaging literacy curriculum for our children. Concentrating on making sure there is a clear knowledge and progression of skills and learning for ALL children.

It is an exciting time to be part our school with lots of positive change and I just want to share with you a few of these. Ready for September, all our English planning will use the ‘Power of Reading’ as the starting point. This ensures as a school we are using high quality texts all the time. For more information on how The PoR will impact your child and our school please follow the link https://clpe.org.uk/powerofreading

I have also been busy developing the Guided Reading resources from EYFS to Year 6 using Pearson’s ‘Bug Club’. These are class-based reading lessons which use a talk-based approach to deepen children’s understanding of different texts and to develop pupils to be passionate and fluent readers. In KS1 Guided reading will be taught in small focused groups and in KS2 it will be have a whole class approach.

Look out for more Literacy updates to come soon.
