The main role of the Governing Body is to support the Head of School and staff to reach targets as identified in the School Development Plan and the School Evaluation Form. These two documents highlight strengths of the school and areas for development. They help us to plan how to move towards excellence in all areas of school life.
Our legal duties include:
- Teaching and Learning
- Reviewing progress against the school’s budget and objectives
- Appointing, challenging and supporting the Head of School
The Governors meet at least once a term.
There are several categories of Governor, appointed by different groups that have an interest in the school. Currently these groups are Community Governors, Co-opted Governors, Local Authority Governors, Parents and Staff. All Governors have equal voting rights.
We are committed to providing an excellent environment in which pupils learn successfully and enjoy their time in school.
Parent Governor – Chair of Governors, Safeguarding and CP
I began secondary Design technology teaching in 2001 in inner city Nottingham at a large comprehensive. Over the 6 years I progressed from NQT to SLT, taking on responsibility and leadership in KS4 as Director of Achievement.
My husband and I relocated to Somerset in 2007 and I took up an assistant headship before taking some time out to have our eldest son. My husband then set up our couture haute fabric business in 2010 and I moved to BCA as Head of Creative faculty and our second son arrived in 2015. Unfortunately I couldn’t continue my leadership role on a part time basis, so decided to leave teaching in 2016 and focused on being a great parent. Giving time to contribute in design and management within our Fabric business.
When we moved to Middlezoy in 2016, we all fell in love with the community and the school, both of my boys attend and enjoy the caring and inclusive environment. I thoroughly love my parent Governor role and plan to help lead and grow our school to greatness alongside our Head, the fantastic staff and passionate parents.
An accomplished businessman, Gary is a father of 3 boys that attend the schools. A very active member of the board of Governors since 2017, Gary has a passion for doing the best we can for the children and the learning environment they are in. Gary and his family live in the village of Othery.
Gary is also a Trustee of The Levels Academy Trust which Middlezoy and Othery Schools are a part of.
